Pepperdine University began its football program in 1946 and canceled it in 1961. The budget and poor-performing teams were the excuses. The Wave’s first season in 1946 took them to a bowl game, and in the second season, they went undefeated and were considered the Small College National Champions. Location: Los Angeles when they played football, moving to Malibu in 1972.
