University of the Pacific

UOP began its long football era in 1895. It ended in 1995 after a century of playing the game, including successful years under the famous Amos Alonzo Stagg. Budget issues hit the program hard, and it was cancelled. The football stadium, named after Stagg,  was torn down and replaced with tennis courts.
